Default City water hookup

Hi everyone. My city water hook up leaks badly and needs to be replaced. My dilemma is that it's extremely hard to get off and I don't want to break the PVC pipe. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also is this a standard piece or do I need to special order it? It's the brass looking part that needs to be replaced. Do I need an RV guy or a plumber?

Note: the photo posted sideways, but you get the idea. (Rotate to the right.)

Thanks,
Marie

Where is it leaking? Have you tried installing a new hose washer into the end where the hose attaches? You can get these at any home supply store.

Just checking: you did use 2 wrenches, right? One on the brass and the other on the PVC, Having one on the PVC would relieve the stress on the plastic pipe.

Yes. My neighbor helped me. It's in a terrible location and really hard to maneuver wrenches.

Is the plastic pipe long enough such that you could saw off the metal stuff and extend the pipe by glueing in a female-female sleeve?

I will take a closer look in daylight. It is so hard to get in there. It doesn't look it in the photo. I'll take another tomorrow.

I'd try to fit an adjustable wrench in there to anchor the plastic nut in place, then use any pipe or adjustable wrench to remove the brass part. Looks like PTFE tape was used so it should not be too difficult to turn.

Default City water hookup

Did that. Here's another photo to show the difficulty of getting to it.

Seems that there are plenty, enough options.

You might want to remove the faucet handle.

Great idea. I'll see if that helps.

Once I got that thing off I would be tempted to plumb in a decent city water hookup connector. Maybe something like the link below. I might even try to turn it 90 degrees to face outward with a nice faceplate. Whoever did that plumbing job took the cheapest path of least resistance.

You're right and it's a real pain to connect the hose. A quick connect helps.
Thanks

I didn't recognize that because the pic is turned 90* but that is just like our 07 190P and it is a pain to use.

As someone mentioned, it works to extend it a bit and move it away from the wall a bit. You should be able to get some motion in the whole assembly by removing a clamp or two on the plastic part of the assembly.

I may have a pic of ours around somewhere, I will look, but I used a pressure control valve as part of the extension because you should have one anyway. We also have quick connect on it so not to bad to connect now, although were rarely us it. Mostly just when we are sanitizing or flushing tanks.

Amen!
Didn't know the clamps were removable. They look crimped on.
Thanks.

The pex clamps aren't removable, at least not easily. I am talking about clamps on the tubing or other pieces to hold them in place on wall of the cabinet. Ours had one and getting that off gave more room.

I did find a pic of from when we put the power plug in that area instead of the silly mouse hole to feed the cable and plug through, but the pic does show the water change.

I transitioned it to copper tubing to get a bit more strength on the end without moving the plastic tubing much and breaking it over time. The pex is just out of the picture.

Good idea. I'll try that. I'm getting my headlights replaced tomorrow so might ask them to give it a shot.

Thanks all.

We have a quick connect hose attachment. No screw on and auto fill that shuts off when filled on the driver’s side. We can also fill at the cab passenger door by gravity and sticking a hose in without attaching. In that way you can tell when it is full but seeing water on the ground through the overflow tube. I’ve never used the gravity fill but can see it’s use in an emergency with jugs and buckets and funnel if you needed water without an outside water source.

Where are these two fill ports located? Do they penetrate the van body? Down underneath?
