I was once intrigued by tiny homes with zero energy systems and designed a few. It probably drew me to Class B's in RVing. My efforts soon to come to fruition is my custom van I designed and having built by ARV. I admittedly say it won't be cheap but I can afford it. That's why I named it Mies - "Less is more." It is an experiment in design to get everything we have in an extended body Sprinter that is 5 ft longer.

Officially "park homes" by code and legal definition have to be under 400 sf so that is kind of a target to aim for in designing. Those usually have wheels for transport.

I've never lived in anything over 2,400 sf (my timber frame home) and I grew up in an 800 sf 2br 1bath post WWII home with my parents, sister, grandmother and two brothers. My brothers and I slept in an unfinished basement next to a coal burning octopus ducted furnace. It was hell. The floor was always damp in the summer.

They have a similar pay dump at Cabella's in Mitchell, South Dakota where we usually stop overnight on our way to Custer State Park.

Go inside to Customer Service and they will give you the code to bypass the fee, I forget if you have to be a rewards member. My phone contact list is full of various Cabelas dump station pin codes...

I stopped at a Cabella's near Stillwater, MN a few years back and the dump cap was not locked - so you could dump without having to pay a fee.

Yes, several I have found with the dump cap not locked. Some seem to have stopped working and they just disconnect the lock.

You are right, George. They are very complex "L" shaped tanks. I've run out of photo posting space here so I wrote up the description in Sprinter-Forum.com. I got a walk around video yesterday of the progress and screen captured a few photos. If I am guessing correctly they have about a 10" ground clearance. We have a firm date for taking possession - May 21, 2021.

This post reminded me of an amusing memory. Our gray tank is essentially "S" shaped, but to some, its shape is reminiscent of a Neo-Cubist artistic precedent:

Dump Station Blues

OK girlfriend.
We got to dump our tank.
Time be right,
You don' wanna fight stank.

Ummmm....ummm....umm...um.
Its a dump station situation.
In a dump dump station nation.
No need to ration.
Gone' rise to the occasion.

Get out the roadmap.
Boot up the Internet.
Let the satellite
Shine up our dump station.

Ummmm....ummm....umm...um.
Its a dump station situation.
In a dump dump station nation.
No need to ration.
Gone' rise to the occasion.

Roll down the road
Find the dump station
Pay your fee...get out the gloves...the hose...the snake....what else you gotta have, baby?

Ummmm....ummm....umm...um.
Its a dump station situation.
In a dump dump station nation.
No need to ration.
Gone' rise to the occasion.

If I weren't doing this
What could I be doing?
I love it. Having big fun
At the dump station.

Ummmm....ummm....umm...um.
Its a dump station situation.
In a dump dump station nation.
No need to ration.
Gone' rise to the occasion.

Oooo. O-ooooo. O-ooooo. Oooo.

Congratulation, long waiting and 10" is very good. With our factory clearance we had some close calls in Redwood State/National parks roads in the recent trip. I couldn't tell form your pictures how close is the fresh water tank to the SCR (I think it is SCR not DPF) perhaps you need some heat barrier. SCR gets very hot, a little less than DPF's 950F.

The fresh water tanks forward wall is under the B-pillar or basically under the sliding door. The DPF tank is in the engine compartment well away from the tank. ARV has built several short Sprinters so I suspect it is no problem. My current ARV has a gravity fill on the B-pillar. Stick and open ended hose in the filler hole. You have to open the passenger door to fill (so it is concealed). I've never used it. The city water fill which I use is behind the nerf bar skirts on the driver's side. It is closed connected and has a built in pressure regulator.

Some of this depends on how & where you camp, however I avoided cassettes because they fill up so quickly; didn't want the hassle / additional space need of an extra cassette; needs chemicals; hassle to dump.

Coming back home from Redwoods in California we saw this line of vehicles waiting to dump their tanks in South Beach State Park, I counted about 10 vehicles, that is a good 1 to 2 hours of waiting. Is this a reflection of RVs gaining popularity? Fortunately, we didn't have to dump.

Oh geeze, don't tell me you don't have to dump your grey tank unless you are one of those environmentally irresponsible road and camp spot dumpers.

RV popularity increased tremendously during the covid days and we're also seeing a lot more people wanting to get out and away in their RV's now with those days getting behind us.

Incidentally its great to NOT have a black tank
