Can't wait to hit the road
We visited the Milwaukee RV show and now we are feeling a bit anxious for the weather to heat up. We love the spring and fall traveling when you can have the parks to yourself, and most of the bugs are still in hibernation. Not to mention the kids are still in school. Now if it would just warm up enough so we can de-winterize, we can hit the road. Destination???? Maybe some local state parks we haven't seen yet.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
We took delivery on a brand new Great West Van Legend and so far its been too cold to do anything with it other than watch snow accumulate on it.
We're anxious too. Our plan is to head for Arizona March 31 but I am tempted to do so even earlier now.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
It feels like it's been a long cold, snowy, dreary, damp, nasty winter. Or, maybe it's just me?
I think we're trying to hold off until April this year, as we found some of our favorite NPS places
out west had more snow than we did last March. We are planning to see the next shuttle launch,
if possible, and then maybe take a dawdling trip along I-10 towards Tombstone later in the month.
It'd be nice if the oil speculators gave us all a break, and let gas prices ease up a bit as well.
Will someone go and capture the 3 Libyan Stooges, Qadaffi/Qaddafi/Gaddafi (sp? ) and lets
get things back to the Middle East version of normalcy?

I think it's Godaffy but I tweeted this on Twitter:
How do you spell Khaddafy, Qaddafi, Qaddhafi, Gadhafi, Gaddafi? Major news consensus - Gaddafi (6) over Gadhafi (4) and Qaddafi (3)
BTW, here is my research:
MSNBC TV - Khaddafy
Yahoo News - Gaddafi
Time - Gaddafi
BBC - Gaddafi
Guardian UK -Gaddafi
Washington Post - Gaddafi

Fox News - Qaddafi
CBS - Qaddafi
NY Times - Qaddafi
The Economist - Qaddhafi

WHY would you wait for the end of March? That's when it starts to get hot. Go now........ one day's driving straight south should get you out of the snow belt and into the sunshine.
I have driven out of Montana in early January, terrible road conditions.... but I have good tires, a furnace and a sleeping bag.
I just know that as soon as I get beyond Salt Lake City, the weather will be totally different. Like driving to springtime

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
shezonit....I'm with you, unfortunately my DH isn't. He's got this thing about $$ that's always preventing us from just picking up and go. Now with gas prices...YIKES!!! Hopefully things will settle down by then. We were hoping to head out to CA to Sequoia NSP , but now we are thinking of cutting the mileage down and just head out to the Grand Canyon to save a few $$'s. Sequoia will have to wait for another time.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
Seems like it would cost more, to drive out west twice. It would be less expensive to do Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and Sequoia, all in the same trip.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
That is something we have been battling with. If we cut the mileage down, we can spend more time at these areas, and then if/when gas prices are more reasonable, we would go a different route and head into California and be able to spend more time there. Our original plan included going thru Reno and heading south once into California, and then coming back thru Nevada, or vise versa. The mileage was going to be over 5K. Let's hope things settle down and we won't have to change our plans.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
Ha! I just got back from a stay up on the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota on a lake straddling the Canadian border. Stayed in a cabin, not a B. BTW, snowshoed a mile across the lake and touched Canada soil I assume illegally without my passport or border check.
I usually save March for tapping our sugar Maple trees and making Maple syrup.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
No Davyyd, we saw you, but I was able to convince CBSA not to open fire.
I told them you were a foodie, so they relented on compassionate grounds.
You owe me one.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
I guess since I walked on top of the ice I would not be considered a "wetback" but a "snowback"? Maybe a "throwback"?

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
You could have been a rum runner if it was the 1920s.
Much of the illegal booze entering the US back then was driven across the ice in trucks
from Canada. My grandfather "knew" of this activity and the Detroit River was one of
the main thoroughfares, apparently.

Re: Can't wait to hit the road
I am trying to wait until no predicted snow fall will occur. Want to be sure all salt is off the road for good. I am getting the Class B fever.
