There are more than one type of sensor, the external sensors rarely fail. After some time you develop a feel for tanks and no longer need the gauges. I guess that is the height of laziness

Flush with one of the black tank wands add a gallon of water and chemical of your choice and one tide pod cut open and emptied into tank throw out the plastic, the tide pod will help with keeping tank clean and keeps the tank surface slick so less chance of things sticking
