First foray into rv world and looking at buying used first- One criteria is layout with 4 captain chairs ( driver and passenger with 2 directly behind. Suggestions on make that is well built, dependable, holds value pretty good

Welcome to the forum!

Get out (Covid permitting) and check out as many class "b's" as possible. It took us about a year and a half to find the perfect used class b for us.

First, we made a list of "must haves", then a list of "like to haves", then shopped for a used rv in our price range. We could maybe have swung for a new van, but just didn't want to pay that high a price of entry since it was our first rv and weren't sure how we'd like it. We like it.

My "must haves" were a 76 inch bed (I'm 6'2"); and an enclosed wet bath.

My "like to haves" were a compressor fridge and a gasoline chassis (which essentially meant a Chevy chassis since Transits were brand new and even Promasters hadn't been out that long). Chevy model's fiberglass tops are not as roomy as those new vans, however.

I thought I'd end up with a Roadtrek 190 Popular since they were the most plentiful, or the Roadtrek Ranger which was essentially similar and have compressor fridges. But then I happened upon an Airstream Avenue Suite that was a short-lived model they only made from 2010-2013. Very similar to a Roadtrek 190/Ranger, but with the galley & bath sides reversed. It was only 200 miles away and priced about $10K less than what we'd previously seen.

It was in good condition and low miles so we bought it and we're happy with our purchase. But, it's been a good thing I'm retired and somewhat handly as I have spent a lot of time fixing, improving, modifying various systems. I've spent about $5k over the past 3 yrs. of ownership ($3K alone on lithium battery/3000W inverter upgrade) and I'm sure that total would be $10K had I required the labor of an rv dealer rather than DIY.

My van is pretty stealthy, and has not drawn the attention of our HOA in the three years I've parked it on our driveway. I removed several sets of gaudy 1-1/2" AIRSTREAM badges as soon as I got it home.

After I went on & on in the post above, I re-read your original post and see your must-have is extra captains chairs, which mine and most Chevy models do not.

But the principle for shopping is the same. List your priorities and try to get as many of those feaures as you can.

As I remember, the Airstream Interstate had four captains chairs. That turned me off from that model as it took up too much space. It was only going to be two of us so that was a waste.
There is no “Best” class B. In my short time in this, I can see that every model has pros and cons. We couldn’t get everything we wanted in one so we had to prioritize. Ultimately, whatever floats your boat. Good luck.

Don't forget about the Midwest Automotive Passage ... the EXT version has 4 captains chairs. We have the 170 Std model and absolutely love it.

Coachman Galleria 24Q - one of the few with two extra captains chairs where BOTH have three point seatbelts and child latch.

We have looked for almost a year and put a deposit on a Solis Winnebago 59P. It has seating for 4 and if you get the sofa bed layout you get seating for 7. Check it out. All the best in your search.

We have the Airstream Interstate Ext with four captains chairs up front. We switched from a RoadTrek 210 which also had the four chairs but in our Roadtrek the second row seats were plywood with cushions and not as comfortable. Just make sure you check them out first.

Wife and Just bought a new to us B+++. It is a Coach House 272 Platinum XL. We love it. It is on the Ford V10 chassis F450. Has a Banks Power big kit on it. Drives like a much smaller vehicle. On our first outing I was amazed since we got 14mpg at 65mph. It has 2 slide outs and a walk around Queen bed. Now I don't have to crawl over my wife for those necessary nighttime visits. My LTV Freedom wide body got the same mpg's.
