Back Door Lock Chevy Getaway 1991

HI, I am a brand new owner of a camper van, that is decidedly not new. My new-to-me 1991 Chevy Getaway is in pretty good shape, but there are a few questions I would love some help on. First, the back doors wont unlock with the key - and there is no inside lock to open for the door with the latch.
I'd like to remove the back panel of the door to see if I can work on the lock, does anyone have any advice on this?

Second, I have a SL03 charging controller for the solar panels on the roof. Up until now the controller has been 'on' in terms of displaying information. Now it is not, and I am not sure if it is dead, or if there is some on switch I am not aware of.
Any help on eihter of these two things is appreciated.

Does your door panel have upholstered buttons around the edges?


If so, those buttons pop off, revealing the screws that hold the panel onto the door.
