It's grey; stretches slightly before breaking; still pliable after 23 years. Looks alot to me like butyl tape.
I've googled all over looking for the part number, Thetford sealant, etc. and have come up with nothing. I have butyl tape and could cut it into a bead to press into the groove (the base has a slot that the bowl fits into that is currently filled with the grey whatever).
Opinions? I'm reluctant to use anything that would harden and make future separation impossible.

Hi Glenn,
Also an AZ resident here. The heat can play havoc with these toilets. As for the "gasket", unless someone else could possibly have replaced parts on this toilet, that #32 gasket should be a foam-type (closed cell) gasket. It might be possible that yours degraded or just melted making it appear like Butyl. Or, someone put Butyl in there previously?
I rebuilt my Aqua Magic (smaller than yours but identical parts) and had to put in a new Water Fill Valve. In the process I replaced ALL of the gaskets while cleaning every possible part; lid included and hinges. The only way to eliminate any possibility for odors is to replace all rubber parts. The reason you did not find any "sealant" may be that in my rebuild kit, this seal was on a tiny roll and had self-stick adhesive that you carefully fit into the groove. So, I am not sure if you replaced EVERYTHING but that could be why there is a lingering odor.
My Agua Magic (Galaxy) toilet is from 1999. There should be a rebuild kit for yours if you decide to give it another try. Not to discount some of the advice you received but these toilets have never given me a problem since my first RV in 1992 until my filler valve gave out. Those filler valves are notorious for aging and leaking. Also, my Flapper Valve was no longer holding water. The rebuild went well and I watched several videos, which helped.
My advice is to stick with the stock toilets and enjoy the convenience. I looked into these other types of toilets (composting, Porta-Potty, etc.) and found that the expense related (composting bags) and extra effort just weren't worth it to me. Others may love it but for me, a few hours of simple rebuild and cleaning were well worth it. I regret that I didn't see your posting earlier.
I have written several of my experiences with components in the past. Also, I have received great advice from many as well.
Good luck!
Paul
