The Travato is $20,000 more comfortable than the Aktiv.
The Travato's makes a bed, the Aktiv does not. The Aktiv has an easier fold-away table - it folds up against the wall, or you can fold over the 1/2 section and make the table smaller.
With the swing away section, the Travato table as bigger, and there is more seating for additional people.
The thigh room looks about the same. For kids either is OK. For an adult, I imagine on the Hymer you'd fold away the table whilst traveling to give that person more leg room.

I think that photo of the G is an older model. IIRCC, the current G does not have 3-point seat belt system, which a number of people on forums and FB pages have complained about. For them safety overrules comfort - they would go with Hymer.
Has anyone sat in both, within a short enought time interval to compare the comfort?

I sat in both albeit very briefly, Hymer was more comfortable. Travato seat back felt too upright.
Also asked the Roadtrek chief, Jim ?, about adapting a bed over the dinette , he replied that it could be done. Could be salesman enthusiasm, but it would be an easy adaptation.
There already is a mattress that fits over the front seats.

That would be Jim Hammill, the head of Hymer Group North America...
If you check out the thread here about extended length Hymer vans you will see that he has taken an order for an Aktiv with lots of options that have are new so I wouldn't be surprised if they will come out with more front bed options also.

I was at the Hershey show specifically to look at the Aktiv vs the travato. Here are the things I liked and disliked about the hymer:
Hymer Pros:
It looks nice on the inside as I prefer the more modern look.
The mattress in the back is VERY comfortable.
Roadtrek lithium and volt start. I've heard bad things a out roadtrek's system, but the travato doesn't even have an inverter.
The windows are massive and open completely.
Hymer Cons:
The dinette doesn't convert to a bed. Yes they have that cross van seating up front, but that's REALLY tight (I tried it)
The dinette table is super flimsy.
Bathroom is tight.
While the interior looks nice, the build quality is no where near as nice as the travato.
We want to travel with my mother-in-law sometimes so the lack of second sleeping option is really a deal breaker for the Hymer. The Aktiv is on the shorter promaster, so maybe if they use the same chassis as the travato, they could make a fold down dinette area.

Actually the Hymer website lists an optional front bed.

hahaha, mine would not either which is why we will probably end up in a travato 59g.

As far as I know, the 59 G is the only Class b that can handle 4 passengers and sleep 4 in reasonable comfort.
My family of 3 can do a month no problem.

I'm going to be gone for a week with my wife and my grownup daughter. We will be using the dinette bed at least one if not two nights. As I've said before, the problem with the 59g extra bed is that you need to bring along two large cushions to make the bed that serve no other purpose and are therefore in the way during the day. I'll be storing them in a cargo carrier when not in use as they take up too much room in the van.

I use cam straps to secure them to the murphy bed. no issues, no drilling.

I was wondering if you could only bring the one that doesn't have the support bar and make it into a small twin width-wise. Then you can "store" the other cushion as a back for the watertank with this mod here:

The member on facebook (and he may even be a member here) bought a mattress bracket and secured it to the tank cabinet. Here is a screenshot of the PDF he put up:

Yes, there is a bench seat on the travato 59G floorplan and the fresh water tank is inside.
