Default 5.4 L Ford engine

We are looking into buying a used 2005 PW Excel with the Ford 5.4 L V8 and have heard of problems with this engine such as spark plugs, etc.
Has anyone experienced problems with this engine?
Thank you

A little light reading.....?

I googled "ford 5.4 l engine problems" and got these hits. There were more.
I always try to consider or imagine the motivation for people putting up negative
blog entries. I think in this case there are just too many for it to be coincidence.
Maybe there are some other forum members with similar vans and engines, I don't
know, as most people on here don't seem to display their year/make/model on their
profiles for public viewing.
Good luck.

If the rig you are looking at is a 2005, you don't have the sparkplug thread problem, that was fixed years ago. I have a 2002 with the 5.4 engine and it just turned 112,000 miles. Still uses no oil between changes (every 3,000 miles) and I use Castrol 10-30 in it. It just passed its 2 year smog test with flying colors. I do the normal maintenance on it, nothing special, just the fluids, filters, spark plugs. You might do a Carfax to ensure that the mileage shown is correct but other than that, you probably should have a decent rig.

That is a great engine. Several F150's with a ton af mileage on them. I have the V10 in my PW but would not hesitate buying one with the 5.4.
