Default Another Canuck joins the pack

Hello everyone.

Retired guy here, deciding if we are going to go purchase a used B or stay with our travel trailer.

I have been lurking for a bit and decided to take the plunge and jump in, see what happens.

I'm a retired mechanic, not afraid of mechanical things. Very handy, so fixing up a few issues on a used B will not be a problem.

I just rebuilt the front end, 8 feet down the drivers side and a new roof on my trailer. Not afraid to jump in LOL.

I might pop up here and there and ask a silly question.

I have my eye on a 2008 Leisure Travel Free Spirit LSS.

Any thoughts

Thanks

Just reading up on the RV kerfuffle in the Duncan area--- no parking on streets or in yards. and people being priced out of campgrounds and RV parks... Sheesh.

A B's advantages are ease of driving, parking and MPG- in my Chev based van I can count on about 16 MPG at 65 mph.

Disadvantages ( and all RV's/trailers have compromises) are space and storage. and a drive into town for ice cream means packing up camp. with a trailer, camp is there when you get back.

For making time and distance a B is great for team driving & there are no more pull overs for the passenger to use the restroom.
Or for a sandwich- self contained.

The MB sprinter is a great vehicle, others can better comment from experience- there are some years/ versions where the DEF and emissions controls can be an issue.
I went with the Chev as my pick up is a GMC- same drivetrain, commonality in design, lay out. I have manuals and tools. I know I need a 15mm to change the serpentine...which I can get anywhere in North America

If you are going to be using BC ferries, you may want to look at rates regardinglength or height

cheers

I must say -- spouse is out by Mt Ranier right now and it is 2 hr wait to get into park at 1 mph then they are so understaffed becasue I hope not stupid that they do not tell you there is no place to park at the lodge/people are illegal parking on sides of roads for miles and the roads are awful for biking The national park at Mt St Helens same Cannot get thourgh/around mtn passes.Clear cuts by forest service, no bike shoulders, things badly managed So call ahead!

Like Jeana our came from a craigslist ad. (this applies to kajiji or any classified. )

when i am shopping for something I check for new ads everyday

the secret is...the seller of my van misspelled the name so that it would not be found in a casual search. His ad sat unanswered for months and I was the only call he got. At which point he was willing to deal

try raodtrek, roadtrac, road trek etc & pleasureway, pleasure-way, pleasure way
search for any version of spelling you can think of, watch for an ad which is not updated.

similarly one of my bikes, a FLHTC model was advertised as a FLHTZ, again I was the only call after they'd run the ad for months

Thanks for the replies people.

We just got back from a week at my brothers cottage on a lake, no cell or internet service. Totally off the grid and I loved it.

Will get back on the search again once I get my head out of the clouds and back to the real world

It certainly was. I could use another week.

Morning coffee with my little buddy. It really doesn't get much better.
