Fuel Consumption Calculators
Here's one from the CDN Gov't:

Quote:
This fuel calculator can quickly and accurately determine your fuel consumption in litres per 100 kilometres. It can even convert U.S. gallons to litres.

Re: Fuel Consumption Calculators
I like the Mapquest trip fuel cost calculator. You have to know how far you're planning to go,
and your vehicle's average mpg in US gallons.
Just get "directions" for any route, click the calculate fuel costs button on the results page,
and enter your approximate mpg in US gallons for your vehicle (I use 15 mpg, for example),
and it'll use average gas prices along your route (I think that's how it works?) to figure out the
one way cost of your trip in US$.
(the start and end points of your route must be within the lower 48 States, it can't handle
Canadian or Mexican starting or end points yet)

Re: Fuel Consumption Calculators
Mike,
That MapQuest calculator looks handy. I just did a test run with it. Cool.

Re: Fuel Consumption Calculators
Bizarre? I just tried it (Mapquest fuel cost calculator), and it said there was a problem, try again later.
It's been doing this for several days.
Rats!!!
I wonder if my version of Firefox or IE is the culprit? Possibly too back level?

Re: Fuel Consumption Calculators
I just tried using the Mapquest calculator, and it didn't work for me either. It worked fine last week, on the same Firefox version.
There is something in the "box" that asks to sign up for something. Maybe they want some of our info, before they let us use the service.

I am signed up for AOL.COM and have a userid. I try signing in first, and it still
craps out "there was a problem. try again later". I try, and I try, and still no fuel
cost calculator. Maybe it's just too busy during prime time?

Re: Fuel Consumption Calculators
Maybe this is the time of year, when everyone is planning and calculating their trips.

Re: Fuel Consumption Calculators
By way of an update, it seems to be time of day related. If I try the fuel
cost calculator on MapQuest early morning or late evening it usually works.
Mid day, hit and miss.
Also, it can't combine or doesn't track Canadian gas prices, so I have to start
my trip cost calculation in the US city closest to the border crossing point.
