I don't have a specific model recommendation for a head-unit. However, I strongly recommend giving a high priority to the availability of CarPlay/Android-auto (preferably with wireless support). I tried CarPlay early on and was underwhelmed. However, the current implementation is pretty impressive. I have been a big fan of cars with native navigation built in. Although I haven't completely given up this attitude, I find myself more and more using the phone's navigation via CarPlay whenever cell service is available. I still like having OEM nav available for situations where cell service is not available, but these situations are getting few and far between, at least along the Interstates. Travel in the rural West is another matter.
