Check to see if you can bend of flex the stripped area of the wire. If you can't it is almost certainly solder dipped ends on copper.

Aluminum wire is still used for a lot of applications, just not for 120 volt wiring in buildings.

Looks like this thread kinda got off track. My initial concern was addressed and as long as the converter is hooked up correctly... I'll be content with that.
