I got contacted by a class B owner who is working on a large AGM bank system design, and doesn't want lithium, but does want to take good care of the batteries. He has read some of the information about shunt controlled charging and is narrowed down to Outback and Magnum as possibilities and may also tie in one of their solar controllers as they will work the shunt also, I think.
I had never found a for sure confirmation that the Outback would control off the shunt for the shore charger, but he confirmed they told him it would.
I looked around and did find what is probably a newer "explanation" document from Outback that does a really good job of explaining the issue of short charging when on absorption timers and states the cure is to control by return amps. Compete with profile for timer charging profile with a bit not in color that this will only get 75-90% full.

It is an interesting and clear cut read,IMO.
