Default Onan Propane Generator

My Onan propane generator has been in the shop on three occassions and still is experiencing the same problem. (I only have 65 hours on it, although it was installed in 2006) I have tried two different Onan authorized repair centers here in Houston and have decided to find the solution myself. The unit stops running after 10 or so hours. I restart it and it runs for 30 seconds or so; and then it won't start after that. The first repair shop took out the "oil level sensor" (said that Onan knows it's defective but doesn't have a fix) and it ran for 10 or so hours ok then stopped. The second repair shop replaced the "fuel pressure switch" and again it ran for 10 hours or so. Both service shops took the generator out of the coach to repair it. A friend has suggested that the problem might be in the propane regulator at the tank; and that explains why it will work on the shop bench but not for long in the coach. Anyone have any suggestions on what they have experienced? Thanks.

Default Re: Onan Propane Generator

I don't have any specific advice - just some thoughts and a question.

Do other gas appliances run ok when the generator quits?

There is an oil in propane for odor (and maybe lubrication). That oil builds up and settles in the tank. There was quite a bit in the bottom of my 2004 tank. The more propane you use then more oil collects.

I wonder if excess oil odorant could foul the propane line (or regulator)? Removing the gen for repair would perhaps allow the odorant to drain explaining why it will run ok in the shop and for 10 hours when reinstalled. I'm just guessing here though.
