New QG Onan generator drawing 3.6 amps while running
So, I installed a new QG 2800 Onan/Cummin generator in my 2001 PopD. Relatively straight forward. Harness for the new remote start had the same connector as the old one. Plug n play. Electrical connections the same. Green, black and white wires to the house/converter. I had to buy a new exhaust pipe and I added a resonator to it. It’s very quiet compared to old unit.
It starts right up, powers LG A/C and microwave at the same time. It’s doing its job, but…….
I have a Trimetric monitor. I used to see a charge coming in from the generator when running. Now, I see a -3.6 amp draw when the Onan is runnng! I thought it may be a false meter reading as the negative chassis ground wire sparked when I reconnected it. Thought it may have upset the meter and it lost ts settings. It still reads the SOC and battery % properly.
To test f it s actually drawing power from the battery when running, I ran the battery down to 96% and left the generator run fr 45 minutes. I came back and it read 94%! Lost 2% runnng.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? The meter does not detect any battery draw when generator is off.
I will cross post n different forums to get more ideas.
Thanks.
