Default Lesson learned - Oil in Generator

For the past few months my generator would take several tries before it would start. Finally, today it would not at all. Today I read the posts that said check the oil. I crawled underneath and sure enough: low oil on the stick. Took a while to figure how to get the oil in. There's a big battery case blocking access down there. Tried squirt oiler - that was too tedious. Finally, I found this top on a small two-cycle oil bottle. That worked much better. Now the generator starts up without any hesitation at all. I wonder how much oil these generators burn?

A few years ago there was a lot of talk about low level cutting out of the Onan and that at least some of it was because there was confusion about how to check the oil level. I think it was the common stick screwed in or not thing. I think the owners manual specifically states which way to do it. We don't commonly here about lots of oil burning, but I am sure it uses some.

Get yourself a hand pump for quart size bottles. It should hold one quart, and yes, even a few ounces can set off the low pressure switch. I change mine once a year, along with the air filter, and I estimate mine burns (Or leaks) about 3-4 ounces. Purrs like a loud kitten. This pump is about $10 The only bad thing is it connects to the smaller hole opening of an oil bottle, and most have a larger pour opening. I just saved and reuse the same bottle. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
