Default Girard Instant Hot Water Hwater

Hi. We have a new Roadtrek Zion SRT with the Ecotrek system and one of those instant hot water coil heaters. I’ve used this kind of hot water shower in cheap hostels all over Asia and they work efficiently. However the Girard version in my new Roadtrek is erratic. Lots of cold water, eventually some hot then a few seconds later cold then hot, repeat. This never happened in Asia. Dealer says this is normal. I am not looking forward to the day I actually need to use the shower.
So my Question is, what have others experienced with these tankless hot water systems and does mine sound defective?

Tankless heaters are not a good choice for boondocking. They use quite a bit more water aside from the hot cold issue.

Some folks with the Girard have switched over to a 6 gallon Suburban conventional water heater.

Hi: I have the same Girard in my 2016 PW lexor TS. It behaves like you just stated. I take showers but generally in the afternoon when the weather is not too cold. It does come out hot and quickly cools down when soaping down. There is a new Truma/Combi which is supposed to be much better. It is now the standard for new PW. I have heard it was much improved over the Girard.

I too have used the overseas instant hot water systems around the world and found them invariably extremely efficient... and sensible. But basically the Girard is awful, almost everyone hates it, and I specifically ordered my 2019 S-SRT to have the Suburban even though RT had switched to the Girard for all the Promaster models.

I know one who switched to the only Truma model that was a direct switch and it isn't much better. The good Truma choices don't fit.

I too recommend that you have it switched to the Suburban.
