From what I've been told on another forum, it's a flaw in the outdated software platform used by all the Social Media forums. It is unable to read the orientation information in the photo file and assumes all were taken in standard orientation. I think that's landscape (home button on right) for a tablet and portrait (home button on bottom) for a smart phone.
You can resign yourself to taking all photos in the standard orientation, or take the trouble to download and run them through a photo editor on your laptop and post from there.
I am learning for forums such as this, in which others view on a variety of screens from vertical phone screens to wide aspect laptops, that use of the square aspect ratio is more flexible (and of course eliminates the temptation to rotate the device).
