An upcoming trip - Tx-Durango, Co -Ventura, Ca -San Diego, Ca -Tx.
Although I, like everyone else, would like to see gas prices go waaaaay down (it's not gonna happen) but I'm not letting it's high price discourage me from traveling.
Before heading out I've started a little fun project of checking gas prices along my intended route and I'm doing so by using the following procedure:
I've mapped my route (using MS S&T '0
and noted the stop-overs and towns at which I'll probably "fill-up" - approx every 350/400 miles. Then I've gone to an internet site on which one can post a ZIP code and it'll map filling station locations and give their prices - lowest to highest. (ZIP codes can be found when doing a google search for a city's weather).
For instance Kingman, Az gas is shown at $3.87.9 compared to Williams, Az at $4.04.9 and Barstow, Ca at $4.15.9. I'll fill-up in Kingman..
I've also got the site address for Flying J stations and their prices tho there won't be too many of them along my route.
I now have a simple spreadsheet showing City Name - ZIP - Latest Gas Price. I've entered this date (7/31) and will do so again the day before I leave. With an internet connection along the route (which I'll have) I'll be able to check on a daily basis.
Here are the site addresses:
