There is another place you might be able to get away with doing this. Galveston, TX Seawall Blvd. is 8 miles long with parallel parking next to the beaches. You pay by simply using a PayByPhone app with your credit card. Create an account, input your parking spot and time you want and you are good to go. I don't know if it has any time restrictions and I don't know if the cost would be comparable with nearby campgrounds but it would be convenient and you would be go to go if you tried it. I didn't try an overnight since I was already booked in the county campground at the end of the seawall. But now I am curious as I didn't think about it until seeing this post.

I should note that just like any metered parking spot, if you leave some one else can take your spot and it cannot be saved by leaving camping equipment but only if you have another vehicle (toad.extra fee). You pay at iron ranger or online with credit card. There are 2 other Ventura county park CGs nearby. Faria and Hobson. Emma Wood State beach CG is just down the road but is $40 for picnic table and fire ring.

I was curious because an old hippie bus was parked on Seawall Blvd in the same spot two days in a row.
