Default Mass to NC, 2500 miles, Oct. 2015

Wonderful trip with out 2016 Travato 59k. Left Mass. and headed via PA to Delmarva Peninsula for Assateaque State Park to camp with the wild horses. Biking is super flat at sea level. Generator OK campground. Went inland heading for Beaufort, NC to see Pirate Blackbeard museum...must see!! From there headed north for Skyline Drive in Shenandoah Valley..increadible ride with camping at 3500 feet!! Finally headed home via Gettysburg Battle Field in PA...awesome trip..hope pics show well......

mass59K and I crossed paths at Assateague National Seashore as we camped adjacent one night. The wild ponies are everywhere in the park.

From there we headed north through Delaware, crossed over to New Jersey via a ferry and then on back to New England before coming back through Queens Village, NYC and then on home.

Wincrasher,

Nice pics!

Glad you enjoyed Assateague NP - one of our favorite places for a quick getaway; only 3 hours from our house. Looks like you camped at one of the Bayside sites.

FYI - A bit further south is Kiptopeke SP, about 8 miles south of Cape Charles and maybe a 1-2 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Nice campground, hot showers, great overnight stopping point before the bridge if you are heading south to the Outer Banks or Williamsburg area.

Cleaning up and putting RV antifreeze in the EVC today and then into the garage for winter - other than taking it out of a spin every 2-3 weeks for "exercise."

How was the mpg in your new 59K? All systems working fine?

We did a loop around the Chesapeake last month that included Assateague. We stayed at the state park, rather than the national park (we were traveling with another party whose rig required hookups, which you can't get at the NP). Sorry we didn't run into anyone.

Another great park in that area is Cape Henlopen State Park, just north of Assateague. Built on a former army base--lots of history and beautiful seashore.

Henlopen SP in Delaware was our next stop after Assateague this past fall. It is right next to the ferry that takes you over to Cape May, NJ.

Henlopen was a parallel park on the road kind of place similar to what we encountered at Banff NP. The asphalt all sloped toward the center of the road for drainage. It was easy finding level front to back but side to side was difficult. However, we luckily found one. Most I noticed were blocking one side. You take showers in full private bathrooms. That was nice.

Henlopen is on our list, too.

What is also nice is that each of these parks has a very nice small town nearby for supplies and with some good restaurants. Assategaue has Berlin, MD; Henlopen has Lewes, DE and Kiptopeke has Cape Charles.

mass59k,

Sorry, got you mixed up with Wincrasher. All these brand new 59k are starting to look alike

Still, how is your mpg doing with the 59k? Gas engine, I assume?

Mileage seems to be around 17mpg. All systems fine except for slide door screen. .dealer asking WGO for replacement. Camper in inside storage across the street...super convenient. .heated and dry with access anytime for $100 month. Planning to head south in March if weather ok....Henlopen a must now on our list

Where are you headed? My wife and I went south to FL Panhandle last April and came back up the east coast. Many interesting places down that way.

March (usually ) warmer on Delmarva than Massachusetts, but can still be chilly, rainy, etc. -early spring.

Mass59K,
Would you be willing to share the name of the storage facility if it is central/western mass? I'm in NYC and would like to have cheaper storage in that area when it's not stored in Florida.
