Just completed our foray south, including Smoky Mountain National Park, the Tail of the Dragon, Biltmore Estate, the National Battlefields at Cowpens and Kings Mountain, Appomattox Courthouse, and parts between - 1,682 miles. Our camping fees totaled $58 for the journey, including $8 at Smokemont campground in the park, $5 at the neighboring Joyce Kilmer National Forest, and a freebie outside of Durham. BTW: South Carolina has some very nice and well-kept state park campgrounds.
