Default Camping in Finger Lakes area

Hi,
We're leaving to camp in the Finger Lakes area mid-Sept to early October. Wondering what people recommend. We like public campgrounds, state forest, national forest, state parks, national parks, are OK w/out electricity and with pit toilets, generally "rougher" camping (we generally don't camp in private campgrounds, Walmart lots, etc). We like to hike a LOT, every day if possible, enjoy some kayaking, also like a good scenic drive. What do people recommend for this region?

Hi Vince, that is a beautifull area to go to, we went last summer, and our favourite place was Letchworth state park,, they call it the grand canyon of the east, we hiked every day, rode our bikes all through the area, they have river raft rides also, but we decided to hike through the canyon instead.. The campground was very nice, we had a very private spot, it was perfect for us in our RT, my wife loved the drive through the area, with lots of small towns to stop and see, lots to see and do, hope this helps,,,, take care,,,,,,,,,,
