I was pleasantly surprised about a year ago when my RoadTrek 190 Popular and I pulled into the City of Rocks State Park (
http://www.gilawilderness.com/travel/cityofrocks.htm) in New Mexico. There is a small full-hookup camping space for a few vehicles, and lots of dry-camping room in and among the beautiful rock formations if you want to get away from the crowds. I chose the latter, and ended up by myself in a setting between two huge rocks with my own picnic table. The night was spent in absolute silence, and in darkness so black that you literally could not see your hand directly in front of your face. I have never camped in that kind of darkness except near the river in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. What a great experience!
Here are a couple of photos from that day at City of Rocks:
Best wishes,
