MICHELIN ISSUES SAFETY RECALL FOR COMMERCIAL LIGHT TRUCK TIRES

Michelin is recalling one version of a specific size of the Michelin LTX M/S tire. These tires are typically found on such vehicles as commercial light trucks, full-sized heavy duty vans, small RVs and some large pickup trucks.

The tires were produced between January 2010 and June 2012.
The tire version and size are:
Michelin LTX M/S LT 225/75R16 115/112R LRE
The tires were fitted as original equipment on some new vehicles and were also sold as new replacement tires.
Michelin is issuing the recall because a small number of the tires being recalled experienced tread loss and/or rapid air loss.

Michelin recommends removal of these tires as soon as possible. Owners of the affected tires should visit an authorized Michelin retail location as soon as possible to have the tires replaced at no charge.

I bought these tires this year.

Does the 2 suffix make them a different tire? I am guessing I am in the clear but I'll probably check. My tire wear after about 15,000 miles has been super.

Edit. They are 215 not 225. I think that means 3500 Sprinters aren't affected.

Visited my van a couple of days ago and checked my tires: Michelin LTX M/S LT225/SR16e 115/115r; B3JH AKEX 4310, 5010 and 3810 (didn't dive into the snow drift to get the 4th tire number). Emailed Michelin to ask if these were subject to recall. Response: Yes, it appears so. Please present your tires to a participating Michelin dealer who will assist with the removal of the affected tires. The tires will be replaced with a similar product at no cost to (me). They deeply apologize for the inconvenience. However "it's our responsibility to put safety first…". Their response was very quick.
Stopped by local tire outlet this afternoon. They will follow up directly to confirm with Michelin and call to let me know when they've got the OK to proceed and replacement tires available. They indicated it might take a while. Said I hope no longer than a couple of weeks since we head south in February.
I purchased the tires in Feb 2011, so I've had 3 years of excellent performance from them, but since hearing of the recall, I'll be happy to have them replaced before hitting the highway again.

Thanks so much for flagging the problem on this forum. I'd never have known otherwise.

Yes, friends, I had all 4 of my Michelins replaced beginning of January by KalTire here in Duncan at no charge, I had about 6K miles on them but I got 4 new ones :Michelin LTX M&S2. I am happy.
