Default wanted- roadtrek chevy propane tank

my propane tank has a leak, looking for a good used one. mine happens to be a 2007 popular, but i think all Chevy propane tanks are the same from 2000 on.

A friend in Canada got a tank for his 2007 210 through his local RV shop. Unfortunately, he was told that Manchester (the tank maker) told the supplier that they are no longer making that tank because it is vehicle specific. Not sure what that means, but since the Chevy Roadtreks have not been made for many years then perhaps Manchester doesn't see the market to warrant making them.

I came across this smaller tank that looks like it has the correct mounting flanges. Consider contacting them for more info or the possiblility of the larger tank being available.

Thanks Peteco. I've already looked at those and various other options. Hoping to find someone getting rid of the tank.

*I'd consider new, but not for $1800 CAD!!!

Still looking!!!

I can't recall ever seeing anyone that found a used tank for a Roadtrek as by the time they get scrapped most are probably as bad as yours unless in a major wreck and being parted out.

There have been users here that found tanks that were close and adapted the hangers and plumbing to match without a huge amount of issue.

The fill rules are also getting tighter some places. The U Haul store I use takes pic of every tank before they will fill it, and the tech said that if it has been painted they have to take and even closer looks. CYA insurance and against a leaky tank and lawsuit, I think.

Who told you that the tank needs to be replaced? There's nothing wrong with the tank, so you need to find out what's leaking that's connected to the tank. I've been through many discussions relating to replacing the tank, and in the end they confirm it was something else. I thought I needed a new one, because of the heavy surface rust. I brought it in, because my valve was stuck open. A 40+ year Yardmaster at Amerigas repaired it. I asked how long the tank was good for, and he replied "Forever". Many have been scammed and thought it was the tank, because the problem was solved when replaced, but it was the new connections, shut off valve, filler valve etc. that actually solved the problem. ASME Tanks NEVER need to be replaced.

You're wrong, unless you were in some sort of major accident, but go ahead and replace it. LOL the weld is leaking. The last person who said a similar thing ended up eating crow. Enjoy your meal

Don't count on him eating crow. I have been around all kinds of pressure tanks over all my working years and all can have rust issues and leaks, unless they are stainless steel which can have it's own corrosion issues.

Welds on all tanks is the most common place I have seen for rust to start and cause small leaks that eventually grow larger.

There are lots of examples across the RV forums that pinpointed leaks to welds in the ASME tanks, although not usually on the end bells. More commonly around the bungs or on the mounting frame connection points where it is harder to get good consistent penetration on the welding. Most of them show as questions on the forums about "can my leaking propane tank be rewelded to fix a leaking weld". Most experts say you can't reweld the tanks adequately.

I do agree that most propane leaks reported don't turn out to be the welds as we see that often on this forum, but weld leaks can and do happen also.

Fine with me but I prefer multiple data points rather the opinion of one old guy regardless of his claimed credentials.

@chicagotom, 40 years experience. Are you offering to swap tanks? If not, Get out of my want ad please. better yet, buy my tank from me for about 600 bucks.
One picture is obviously soap bubbles in the first leak. The other picture is the propane spray out of the second leak. the 2 leaks were about 1.5 inches apart on the weld.

no the vehicle was not in any accidents, tank had some surface rust that I was in process of repainting.

do you have a new tank for me?

Just curious can you take a pic of the entire tank? I would be interested to see where the leak is at because I have never seen one of those tanks leak due to how thick the metal is. I had a rusted tank on my vanagon westy that looked like hell but I had it sand blasted and repainted and was good as new.

help with what? tell me the tank is ok?? are you a welder that can certify ASME tanks? Do you know any welders asme certified? do you have a better plan than sandblast and paint?? is there a repair facility near you? let's go.

I'm looking for a new, or non-leaking tank. or a reasonable option to replace this one, without too much fabrication.
