Has anyone traveled recently through the Zion tunnel with a class B? (Ford Transit based.). By the numbers, we won't require an "escort" if our mirrors are folded.

I'm wondering if they will allow us through with folded mirrors or require us to wait for the one-way control and pay the fee? (More concerned about the waiting than the fee which hopefully benefits the NPS!)

They will tell you when they see you, as you would pay the fee at the park entrance. Not worried about the width, but if your Class B is close to 10 feet high, they may still want you to use the center of the tunnel and pay the fee for that privilege. I would definitely ask, because the fee is way less than the cost of replacing the AC unit, etc., on top of the van.

I drove through there with my 19' Sprinter Class B last summer. No one questioned us at all. Our van is just slightly longer than 20' with our rear storage boxes and about 9' 10" high with the AC. Our width is the standard Sprinter width and we certainly didn't need to fold the mirrors in. As I recall, I saw bigger rigs than ours going through there without an escort.

No problem for me

I drove through there last December in my Transit based Class B Coachmen Crossfit. It's 22 feet long and 10 feet high. It's snug, but worked just fine. Enjoy Zion, it's amazing!

I went through at end of Match 2022 with a Transit HR @ a safe 11ft high. I recall posted limit sign @ 13 ft. No one was looking at Class Bs.

No Problem w/Zion Tunnel

I've gone through with a Coachmen Beyond (2019 Transit 148 Extended w/AC on roof) no problems. I've gone several times both directions.

We drove thru there in 2020 with our Ford Transit at 10 ft tall add they let us thru with no escort but yes you do have to stay away from the edges.

Thanks everyone!

Based on responses we were all set to go through Zion (heading from St. George to Bryce Canyon) but, sadly, decided to avoid the Zion traffic since we needed to get here for a first-come first serve campsite.
FWIW, at Bryce, only Loop A is open so far, so not many sites!

Bryce not fully open yet

We're at Bryce now and in North Campground Loop A is the only loop that's open. (Seems to fill up around 11-noon daily).

The ranger told me he "thinks" they will open loop B at least late this week or next week. Apparently it's a combination of cold (nights still in the 20s) and staff shortage.

The park is super crowded around midday. Hard to imagine where the people will fit in mid-summer!

We just drove through the Zion Mt. Carmel tunnel the other day in our Hymer Aktiv Class B and had no problems. We are 9'4" at our tallest. Enjoy the ride as you shouldn't have any problems going through in a Class B.
