I am proceeding with repairing a Roadtrek window. I have it off, i have the lower glass separated from the top portion. I am trying to separate the hinge part from the glass. most of it is loose, but a small portion is still held fast to the hinge lower part.
How would someone (like me) break the adhesion, without damaging the glass or the lower portion of the hinge?
Any help will be appreciated.

Heat like with hair dryer, or heat from a propane torch?

Thanks, appreciate the help.

Thanks, I tried using the hair dryer and with two full blades in a utility knife, I was able to separate the glass and the hinge. Now to clean off the residue.
Any tips?

On another piece of this repair, any thoughts on how much pressure to clamp the two together? I will be using 3M Windo Weld.

Thanks again.

Residue should come off with a razor blade.

Not too much pressure, you want the adhesive to remain between glass and hinge.

I have been using a utility knife and it does chip off, patience is the key word. Acetone does not seem to have an affect.

Not too much clamping pressure is what I was thinking, do not want to squeeze out all the glue. Thanks for giving me the confidence that i was thinking in the right direction.

I have found Lacquer Thinner to be effective at cleaning many different types of adhesive residue.

Most of the better adhesives will give a recommended gap as well as minimum and maximum gaps with strengths at each of them. Especially on hard to bond smooth surfaces gaps can be critical and need to be followed.

We use a product called "Goof Off" for removing adhesive. Works great when we removed decals and letters from our XPlorer
