Hello, just registered on this site, my wife JoAnne and I recently bought a 1989 Champion Telstar Motorhome. Seems to fall into the B/B+category??....Took it on a maiden voayage to California, and it did good. The exception being that we had a blow out due to having had bad tires that "looked like new"!!!.
The Chassis is a Ford E350, with a 460 engine. Interior was great. Used lots of gas, but upon further inspection after the trip, we discovered an extremely dirty air filter. Hopefully GPM numbers will increase somewhat! Will post up images later on. Does anyone else own a Champion Telstar??....Would love to trade knowledge if you do.....

Hi. It's hard to say what category the Telstar is in, but I think it's a B+ or larger.
This one was for sale, and was put in the ad as a small C, but it's 23 feet long (Sprinter sized)

or this one as a B+ but it's 27 feet long which makes it pretty much a C (to me, anyway).

I think a true class B is loosely defined as a van conversion, meaning the majority of the original
van chassis and body and mechanicals remain intact, and the various RV functional systems are added.

Anyway, welcome, sorry to hear about the tires, hope you had a reliable ERS company.
I'd imagine the gas mileage will get better once you get a few road trips under your belt.
Takes a bit of trial and error to get the hang of coaxing an extra mile or two out of a gallon.
Correct tire pressure, clean oil/filter, clean air filter, all help too.

Hello, thanks for the replies!!.....I did join the champion fleet owners group. Pretty cool site too. It's interesting to read all of the info available out there. I had seen both of the ads online also. Thanks for the links. Anyway our rig is still in the repair shop being fixed. Parts are a problem since they are not being made anymore, manufacturing them comes into play. We are looking forward to getting short camping trips here and there through the winter, and then in the summer doing it a lot more!!....

Welcome to the group. It is really neat to see a 1989 on the road and giving up happy memories. You mention the gas consumption, it's a Ford, ha!! In all seriousness, you might consider a K&N Air Filter, a little pricey, but it last forever, and can up the gas mileage a little. Safe travels.

Seeing where you call home, you'll have some fab places to stay and explore out there.
My wife and I were just out there in September, and thought Washington to be one of
the best places we've visited in the last 2 years since we started "B'ing". We were very
impressed with Mt. Rainier and the drive through the NP was spectacular.
Best wishes and safe travels. :)

The Telstar looks like a very nice RV ! Enjoy.

I would maybe consider it a B+ ?

Hello Lou, Saw your post. I am purchasing a 1987 Telestar 27 feet. How is your rv doing? I have a four day ride home to NC. A little nervous.

Make sure you have good roadside assistant plan that includes towing a big RV.
