Does anyone travel with a litter box? Is smell an issue? How do you control it? Where do you put the box?

We haven't traveled with our cat yet, so this might not be relevant, but I intend to buy a roll of those little baggies that dog walkers use and go after it right after it happens.

Could you toss it down the toilet or would the litter become an issue?

The poo tends to be sticky and clay litter (any litter, actually) sticks to it.

In the black tank, the clay will dissolve and form a coating on the bottom of the tank - it probably won't suspend well and will make the tank heavy and really hard to clean. No personal experience with RV tanks, but I know you can't flush it down a home toilet long-term without clogging the pipes.

Off topic only slightly, I'll take this opportunity to rant about clay litter, which often causes kidney failure in cats. When I started working in clay, I read the MSDS sheets on it and inhalation of clay dust leads to lung cancer, emphysema, and kidney failure. Who knew? Of course cats have their noses down in the litter while they scratch around (some more than others) and inhale quite a bit of clay dust over their lives. I lost four cats to kidney failure over the years and once I read the MSDS sheet, I think I know why.
