Born Free Grows Dealers; Plans ‘B’ Coach in Jan. | RV Business

Dodgen said Born Free’s new Class B will be built on the Mercedes-Benz 3500 170-inch wheelbase Sprinter chassis with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The line debuts with three floorplans, all featuring a streetside slide, and a base MSRP of $145,000, nicely equipped.

Interior features include premium handmade hardwood doors and drawers, Corian kitchen countertop and tile backsplash, 6.3-cubic-foot three-way refrigerator with freezer, 30,000 Btu LP furnace, and Firefly fully dimmable multiplex lighting system.

Exterior features include molded fiberglass body with full body paint, fiberglass floor with plywood core, black tank flush system, 15,000 Btu ducted roof AC, power awning and tinted Thermo Paned frameless windows.
"streetside slide" & "molded fiberglass body" ? We'll probably have to wait to see photos to see if this a B van built on van chassis or a small Class C unit built on a cutaway chassis.

Seems like every RV manufacturer is racing toward the Non Class A segments. Could it be with such a large inventory of preowned fairly new Class A's on the market that new Class A sales are suffering?

Has anyone driven a Class C on a Sprinter or Promaster that was not squeaky or flexed going down the road? This alone has kept me from considering a Class C. I will gladly give up 2-3 MPG to get the greater structural rigidity you find in many Class Bs and larger Class As/

Drove a trend/Viva (dont remember which) on a Promaster, which drove, handled, and felt great... But, it's still a C, and its still a big box on a van, so if it doesn't "squeak or flex" yet, it will soon enough... I just don't see how it would be possible to "add" a body to a van or cutaway that could be anywhere near as "rigid" (and water tight) as the original steel Van body. That's a HUGE part of what makes a B "B"est IMHO :)
