I have about given up trying to find a proven source for 15" tires.
I have noticed several posts that shows owners have gone to 16" rims (wheels).
What rims are available? Most tire stores don't want to spend the time looking . . .
Is there 1) a VW salvage tire, like from a Camry or other model that is heavy enough to handle the load or 2) is there an appropriate alloy rim available so I don't have to hunt wheel covers?
I would appreciate input from those who have made the change or know VW rim capacities.
Thanks

16 inch wheels

The jetta 2005-up steel wheel works fine. They are 16" and the correct bolt pattern.

I would suggest that you do not use car rims unless they have a weight rating on them. They may work for a while, but that doesn't mean they're made for the weight of a B.

wheels

I have 25k miles on my steel wheels (2005 jetta wheels) . They have been trouble free, and are stronger then alloy wheels. What steel wheel did Winnebago use on 2002-2005 rialtas.

Thanks 289cobra. Those rims should be easy enough to find. Two further questions. What size and brand of tires are you running on those Jetta rims? And did you have them powder coated or did you find wheel covers?

Bruceper, what rims do you suggest? I am open to the best wheels/rims I can find!

The Germans are usually pretty anal about ratings and labels, so I wouldn't be surprised if the steel wheels have a maximum load rating stamped on them somewhere. A look at the current 15" wheels to see if they have a rating on them would also be interesting, I think.

I would agree with Bruceper and be very hesitant to put a 3000# car wheel on an RV that is twice that heavy, unless the wheel had a capacity stamped on it. A wheel that would handle double the weight would be considerably heavier than the lower capacity one and cost mileage and performance. I can't see VW doing that.

wheels

Yes, the jetta only is about 3300 lbs and the wheels on the rialta (steel) were from a eurovan 4200 lbs. So I would look for a rating of 4200 lbs. I still plan on running my jetta wheels. eurocampers.com sells the original steel 16" wheels for the rialta. They claim these are the original heavy duty wheels for rialta ,vista and eurovan camper. $136.90 ea. They are 6" rims and 7" rims for $196

I was searching a while ago and came across this company in the UK who sell alloy's for motorhomes. In this link, the 5th entry down, the US Rialta owner purchased his rims and there are some photos as well. There seem to be more Class B/C style RV's in the UK based on VW, Ducato, Sprinter Chassis than in the US

Now those are nice wheels! May be just what I was looking for!
What size tires did you put on your new rims?

I had a choice.
Continental Vanco2 215/65/16 on all 4 rims
or
Nokian WR C3 195/65/16 front, 215/65/16 rear

Continental Vanco2 were OEM from the factory I think, but the Nokian sizes are what Winnebago put on the Rialta from the factory.
I went with the Nokians ( and they were a bit cheaper too...)
