Some of the conversion kits are pretty impressive and may pass the cost/benefit test. When you consider some of the kits available are pretty much a full conversion I would consider may be good value. They supply the insulation, basic electrical setup, all the fasteners you need for the project, floors, walls, wall coverings, ceilings, bed platforms, cabinets etc. c&c’d for your specific van making the conversion a several day project rather than a weeks long project where you have to make each piece from your own measurements or patterns, plus source the materials there definitely is value where all you mostly supply is your labour. They effectively give you a road map to follow or modify to your liking. You can get the full meal deal or go al la carte and just cherry pick what you want or can afford now.
Oh and I think there are some very cost effective bed solutions for way less than $2,500 (hint - look at Ikea bed rails supported by Ikea kitchen cabinet rails on van sides [Youtube]).
