I could see hating the black tank dump if you were using gravity and a slinky, but with a macerator it is very quick, easy, and clean. No rinsing anything unless you want to pour a bucket of water through the tank, and then all you handle is clean water.

Learning curve on macerator is minutes and very easy to learn. The only downside of a macerator is the the possibility of failure, which some have had and others haven't.

I just went out and opened the flat and looked in with a flashlight on our 07 C190P Roadtrek.

The toilet sits about 6" above the van floor on a raised bathroom floor.

The toilet shape below the flush gate valve is not a perfect pipe down to the inlet of the tank, but close to it. It widens out maybe 3/4" right after the valve and then kind of tapers back to pipe size which is close to valve size.

I don't see any area that would catch a lot of "stuff" when sloshed, or not drain right back down into the tank.

Here is another view.

I am so happy old toilet is gone forever.

And that the black tank use is now a mega storage if I need it.

Default no go

Fun fact:

The dometic 300 toilet does not fit the Roadtrek 190.

Upside: These toilets take 10 minutes to install.

*Ordering another thetford*

Cassette potty guys: Sorry but I will not perp-walk into a bathroom to dump.

This is progress!

I usually rent a small baby & put the cassette inside the stroller like a Trojan Horse, works every time.

Surprised?

A class B, especially a Roadtrek 190, is a vehicle wrapped around a toilet.
If you are not using it you are smelling it or within a couple feet of it.
Perhaps I will change my tune once Ive conquered it.

Only took me 9 years & a bulk supply of Patchouli on date nights - I could have masked the smell of a dead billy goat.

Are you using this method for Michelin rated restaurant toilets only?

Yes bit a large, thick rapper type gold chain around the Baby's neck so it looks like we will are going to spend a lot of money - with Michelin, you only get one chance

Default Epilog(ue)

---warning, unpleasant potty talk, may be inappropriate for some readers---

Hopefully the final chapter of this saga for a while:

New replacement thetford installed.
Anybody need one replaced? I can do it in 10 minutes.

Pro tip: I like to sit on the potty (fully clothed, lid down) while torquing the bolts to evenly compress the gasket ring.

I sure would have liked to try another toilet design but the dometric didnt fit and I'm too shy for a cassette potty experience.

One of the major design flaws of the thetford, thoroughly investigated and illustrated in the Roadtrek Life blog, was the open cavity of the toilet. This allows waste spatter (sorry) to go inside and stay in the toilet.
That certainly got my attention but unfortunately, although the toilet will mount in a RT 190, you cannot close the door. I was concentrating on the mounting specs and didnt notice the body of the toilet protruded out too far. The RT in the article is a sprinter based vehicle.

So I got another thetford and it practically installed itself.
I figure at least now Im starting with a clean, new toilet and any toilet build up will be mine (sorry again).

Eric

Well summarized and helpful advice for others.

And, it has to be said. To anyone who takes issue with your post I say "You can't handle the truth!"

Default update

An update on the Thetford toilet.

---Trigger warning: potty talk may not be appropriate some readers---

Just returned from our 4th trip and we've gotten good service from our new Thetford.

No smells or leaks. Since these toilets are about $120 I would recommend replacing the whole toilet if you have leaking from the valve or odor with your current unit. A new toilet solves the "flavor saver" issue, mentioned in several articles, of the open cavity design retaining spatter and odor.

This is the only toilet to my knowledge that will fit in my recently purchased '12 RT 190, a fact that I unsuccessfully challenged. In the end I shut up and replaced it and can now sleep at night knowing any toilet odor is mine.

As my high school English teacher used to exclaim every time the girls bathroom flushed next door: "Surfs up!".

Glad it's working. Was worried there for a minute that something had gone wrong. Success is it's own reward.

What I discovered in removing my AquaMagic IV was that there is an area where splash can occur. I cleaned the area as much as possible and then replaced to no odor. My tact is to use my black tank cleaning wand to spray into this area in the future. We'll see.

One of my main questions was whether or not the plastic, regardless of the design of the toilet, might eventually (mine's 20+ years old) eventually retain odor regardless of cleaning. Again........We'll see. Right now, after one use after cleaning, there is no odor.
