Default Has anyone had their PSM programmed by Benz for idle speed control?

I have a 2016 Sprinter 3500 based RV. It's at the dealership right now.

I instructed them that I'd like to have an idle speed controller installed, and that every system I've seen requires me to have the engine computer "programmed" by the dealership to accept the system..

Apparently it has something to do with the PSM module.

Benz is telling the dealership they have no idea what I'm talking about.

The information available from the idle-speed-control system mfg's is sketchy at best, and I haven't yet selected one to purchase.

Has anyone had this work done on this era of Spritner? Do you have a work order or some such with the Benz work-order-numbers I can pass to the service mgr?

Thanks!

Advanced RV installs high idle for their under hood second alternator. I think my first ARV came that way factory option installed. I believe my current ARV they installed. If my memory serves I don't think MB has that factory option anymore.

My Delco-Remy 330 second alternator puts out about 220 amps on high idle whereas driving 65 mph I get close to 280 amps on the average to charge my house batteries.

I have a 2nd alternator (3rd party). That's why I want the idle speed control, which is why I need to find out what the dealership has to do.

I happen to have lists of the Sprinter option codes for MY2014 and 2019. In both cases, the following options were available:

M53 -- High idle preseet
MT4 -- High idle -- driver adjustable

The former has a fixed speed, the latter is variable.

These are what you would have ordered from the factory. Whether they can be dealer-retrofitted, I do not know. They do say that the speeds can be dealer-adjusted using Star Diagnostics.

Some Random Guy on the Internet over at Sprinter Source once claimed the following:

Quote:
"High idle retrofit includes the switch /wiring harness/ PSM and coding
This is for 2007-2018 906 models only. No high idle retrofit for any 907 chassis unless you go aftermarket. (Mid city engineering)"

That is my understanding as well... and I plan to get an aftermarket kit, but they all (AFAIK) state that the dealership must do the reprogramming of the computer.

I'm wondering if I can DIY it with a tool similar to ForScan...

It looks like this kit comes with a tuner. For the computer flash, probably?

That's my fallback... for some reason if you buy their remote starter they don't need the dealership to get involved, but if you buy their idle control they do... I don't really need a remote start, but any port in a storm...

My 2017 has the high idle switch installed. I don’t think I have ever used it. On occasion I idle my engine when I use my Keurig coffee maker for a few minutes to make coffee which works well with my 2nd alternator. I would have no interest though to rev the engine at a high rpm for any length of time more than I would be willing to hold my foot on the gas pedal. Somehow that just doesn’t seem like a good idea when the better option would be to just go for a short drive with good radiator air cooling to achieve the same result.
