Hi, I just bought a 2017 interstate airstream GL24
The fresh water indicator light says full when the tank is empty. It was supposed to be fixed at the dealership, but I’m not sure if that happened and I’m leaving on a trip.
If I try adding freshwater, not knowing how much is in the tank, what will happen when it fills up?
Thanks for your help with this, Dan

Fill the water through the gravity fill port and it will just run back out that port when full. Often is best to hold the hose back a bit and squirt the water in to let air out of the tank as you fill.

Thanks Booster, can you tell me where the gravity feed port is? I pick up the Coach tomorrow…

Thank you Booster! This was very helpful and put my mind to rest! Hopefully the indicator lights for grey/black water tanks work properly!!
Thanks again! Dan 🙂

Make sure that gravity fill will not be pressurized, the hose needs to by loose enough allowing for water to overflow easily. Pressure buildup in a water tank can rapture the tank not designed for high pressure except hydrostatic water pressure. For example, a 10 PSI pressure buildup will exert 4,320 lbs. force on an 18”x24” tank wall. It is best to use a tank filler hose like one on the picture.

It happened to me once on the Bigfoot camper when the water tank bulged and destroy some cabinetry.

We always hold the nozzle or hose end back a bit from the fill hole, both to let air out and also to prevent the pressure build up.

A couple of years ago we were at Custer State Park waiting to fill the the fresh tank. There was a guy with a rental class C trying to fill his fresh tank, but he was pushing the hose in tightly. It would blow the hose back out with also a huge gush of air pressure driven water from the tank. He was quickly soaked. I went over and told him to just hold the nozzle back a ways and all was good, but he still was soaked.
