A Most Annoying Wine...

Got this in my email - but don't see it here:

THE EYESORE: The standard method for hunting vacuum leaks, is to use a smoke tester.

A great idea. I even tried doing a DIY version - but found it unsatisfactory. I almost always relish the idea of buying a new tool. In fact if after all this I may break down and get an injector cleaning station. Who knows?

WOAH! Just looked at the size of this unit. If it works - may be on order soon. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, and

My observations:
1. I was able to pump past the butterfly. (Engine not on).
2. The glove deflated in under 20 seconds.
A couple of thoughts came to mind. Should the butterfly be "air tight" when closed? If not, that explains how it filled.

But, of Course! That leakage is set to be the flow required to maintain Idle! Having been mostly a Carb-guy, I had to think about this a bit.

That's my story - and I'm sticking to it.

Close the loop - Square the Circle - Close the Case

Which ever set of terms you prefer, I have found the source of the "Most Annoying Wine!"

Apparently in one of my many sojurns under the hood, I misplaced it, or it fell off, or something happend to a fairly critical piece of tubing. I actually had a picture of it posted, but dismissed it as the problem, as it appeared to be part of the fuel rail. booster and I even had a bit of a chuckle regarding it, and options to cap it off.

Yesterday, I threw up my hands, and visited a fellow that owns a shop (and owns a smoke machine) and has a Chevy Express Van. Within 30 seconds we started it up - and he put his thumb over the port - the whine stopped - Case Closed! Didn't even need the smoke machine. Just a set of fresh eyes to view the situation.

We then spent 30 minutes trying to find the what and where it would/should belong.

Later, back home I found more details that I will share regarding MAF, airflow, crankcase flow, and how important that little tube could be!

But first:
