Yesterdays mail arrived a "NOTICE OF RECALL" for our Forest River, from NHTSA RECALL #24V005, Canada Recall: N/A, Forest River ID: 225-1716.

What is the DEFECT: The battery boost cable is connected to a chassis lug provided by Mercedes. If our boost wiring shorts out, it will shut down the vehicle's power steering.

I did contact MB who informed me that it was a Forest River recall notice and I would need to contact my Dealer.

MY GROUP QUESTION:
My dealer is not located in my area of the state, but I do have other RV Dealers within Tampa, Florida. Would I be able to contact any other RV Dealers who service Forest River Products, and have them correct the problem or do I have to drive 200-plus miles to where I bought the RV?

Thanks for your speedy expert responce. I did do a Search and found nothing posted on this recall notice as yet?

Interesting. So, what are they going to do about it?

Well Avanti, visit one of the Upfitter's many service centers to have the cable attached correctly or contact the Dealer where I purchased the vehicle. However, I would like to know if I can have it corrected locally with all the health issues we are currently having. At this time of year, it's hard to see any doctors. With the state's current flow of out-of-state visitors into Florida, until June.

Thanks for your Help!

I'd call around to local Coachmen Class B dealers and see if they'll work on it.

FWIW - Forest River used to have the dealer version of the service bulletins open to the public, so you could download the dealer's version, which had detailed instructions, photos, part numbers, etc. AFAIK they're not public anymore.

Detailed Recall Notice

See attached document. This may not be a simple fix and may result in loss of the battery boost feature. Appears to only apply to AGM-equipped units.
