Hello,

I live in Alberta, Canada. I am thinking of buying an used Class B or B+ motorhome from a private seller in U.S. There are much more options in the States than that of here.

I have two questions not very sure:

1. Is possible to register this kind of vehicle in Canada?
2. What kind of documents I need to get from local authorities?

Thanks

You should probably start by inquiring with your local motor vehicle office in Canada.

Good luck.

The place to check is with the Registrar of imported vehicles. Riv.ca they have final say.
Only certain models are approved for import into Canada.

I had some folks from Edmonton buy a 5th wheel from me in Oregon years ago. We "fudged" the purchase price on the sale documents because you will likely have to pay a VAT (value added tax) on the purchase price upon returning to Canada. Unless the tax laws have changed, you should research what any tax will add to the cost of a purchase you make in the United States.

Not too difficult. First step is check vehicle with RIV.Ca for admissibility. 2 Purchase vehicle. 3 Give customs 48 hours notice 4 Pay duties and gst on entry (duty would be applicable for any non US manufactured RV [ie early Dodge Sprinters were manufactured in Germany and there is duty added plus gst when importing to Canada]. 5 Get safety inspection completed at local Canadian tire where they will stamp form from border that allows you to register in your province. Your done. There are step by step guides on internet for importing a vehicle into Canada. I think BCAA put one out - try Mr Google.

Yes, I don't recall the folks who purchased my trailer having any problems with getting it into Canada with the proper documentation such as title, bill of sale, etc.

And yes, it was a GST; not a VAT. All taxes seem somewhat alike to me...
