Default House Batteries

I replaced the single group 27 Exide Dual Purpose
575 CCA, 700 MCA, 160 RC (min.), 95 Amp Hr.
battery that came with my 2004 Roadtrek 190P with:

two Kirkland (Costco) group 27 Dual Purpose
675 CCA, 845 MCA, 180 RC (min.), 115 Amp Hr. batteries.

I like the RC 180 and 115 Amp Hr. ratings. The $85 Canadian price (each) was right too!

They fit great and I now have at least 1/2" clearance on top. The Exide with a trimmed terminal was a tight fit.

Here are more detailed specifications on the Kirkland (Costco) model # 27DC675 battery.

Group 27M
CCA: 675
CA: 850
RC: 180 minutes @ 25 amps

Discharge Rate____Hours____Amp-hrs
1.0_______________115______115
5.0_______________18.7_____93
10.0______________8.5______85
15.0______________5.4______81
20.0______________3.9______77

25.0=====> 180 minutes

I received this information in an email from Johnson Controls, the manufacturer of the Costco batteries I purchased.

On the 2004 Roadtrek 190P, the house battery is in a small compartment on the passenger side behind the rear wheel. It is only big enough for one battery. The battery is on a slide out tray.

I put the second battery in the small compartment on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel. I did not use a slide out tray.

Home & Park sells a complete kit for this. It has a second tray that would install in the compartment in front of the passenger side rear wheel well, two cables ( Positive and Negative) with battery ends, vents for the compartment modification, wire protectors for the entry in the compartment, bolts, nuts and washers and battery hold down.

I didn't purchase the kit. I 'saved' $300 but, if I had to do it again, I'd probably buy the kit. If I had done the entire job myself I would have saved $500.

I paid a company to make and install the cables which took them 2 hours. It took me another two hours to fix what they did. The cables were getting kinked each time the slide out tray was pushed back in.

The two batteries are connected in parallel. I have 100amp fuses on each end of the positive cable that connects the two batteries. No fuse on the negative cable.
