Default Does anyone know?? - Battery Qwik-Fill

I was just going to put in a remote battery filler that I got from Camping world. It says to put hang the filler hose below the top of the battery. Does anyone know why and what would happen if it is higher?

I don't know the answer.

My guess would be that it's for excess water to drain back out the tube. There must be some sort of valve system. If excess water can drain out then it won't be sitting on top of the valves.

Have you installed it?

Does it work?

Something like that would make the job easier for me.

I just got it in the mail yesterday and didn't have time to put it in. I went through the directions and posted the question as well as checking out flow-rite website. They didn't have anything about it in faq. My battery is located under the floor, under a cabinent making it real inconvienent to check the water. My idea is to hook this up and run the filler hose out where the external shower is. All I would have to do is open the door and fill. The only thing is the shower is above the battery level and that's not what directions say.

I'm curious also so I sent a email to Flow-Rite. No response yet. If I get an answer I'll post it.

Thanks, I would like to know what they say. I did install it as mentioned but I left a big sag in the line to act as a trap. This way if gasses come out through the line the water will buffer it. I also figure if the water becomes acid from the gas it will get pushed back in the battery when I refill it. I also have it arranged so an air gap may happen so it won't be like one continous cell. I could be way off base but I covered all the bases I could think of.

I got a reply:

Hello Mark,

The purpose of keeping the feed tube below the batteries is to prevent the excess water left in the feed tube from draining into the batteries.

This is more of a concern with feed tubes that are longer as we’ve seen in some boating applications as that excess water could draining into the first few cells.

Through further testing we have found that even when the feed tube is higher than the batteries it does not drain into the cells so you can ignore that statement.

Thank you for making us aware, future directions will be corrected.

Thanks, That is good to know . As I stated I tried to put it in in a way that wouldn't happen with the air gap but it puts my mind at rest that it isn't needed.

g1g - I went ahead and ordered the Qwik-Fill battery filler from Camping World. With my Trail-Lite B+ I have to use a mirror and a turkey baster. This will make it a lot easier.

Mine has been working fine. I have the line run to where the outdoor shower is. All I do is open the door, stick the tube in the water and pump. I only used it once and the pumping bulb gets hard so you know when to stop. I don't really know if the battery needed any but the lines got full.

I got my order from Camping World today!

I have not installed the kit but have looked at it. It seems like very good quality to me.

I got kit B & kit C

Kit B
Single Battery On-board Watering Add-on

Kit C
Squeeze Bulb Filling Kit

No more mirrors, turkey basters etc. for me!

If you have two batteries or plan to get a second battery then kit A is best.

Kit A
Dual Battery On-board Watering System
Includes all parts necessary to set up two batteries including a squeeze bulb filling kit with quick disconnect

This post just reminded me to check my battery. I have easy access so I really don't need the fill kit. (Hmm, might be a great idea for a home solar system.)

I've been running my small electric fridge off an inverter and letting the power centre keep the battery charged. Sometimes the camp's power drops below 100vac and last week the power was out for 10 hrs. I wasn't there that weekend, missed a golden opprotunity to use the generator.

The kit was easy to install. The inter-connect tube was even pre-measured.

Actually, I don't even need to open the access door to add water now.

Note: the battery access door on my B+ is way too small

I love the whole idea of these things. Saves me from taking out a cabinent then a floor plate.

I can't say enough good things about Flow-Rite Controls, Ltd. They manufacture the Qwik-Fill On-board Battery Watering System for 12-volt batteries and the Pro-Fill On-Board Battery Watering System, 6-volt RV Edition.

http://www.flow-rite.com/index.html

They respond to questions immediately.
The product is fantastic, well made, easy to install etc.

I needed some help from them recently and I got it right away. I have never seen a company move so fast. I am truly impressed.
